Clan cats follow important guidelines in how they are named. The mother of the kit chooses there first name, and the leader chooses the second name when they become a warrior. Almost every time the cat advances in rank, (see ceremonies) there name changes.
The first part of there name usually describes a physical or physiological trait of the kit. It must be something that feral cats would be aware of.
Such As: Dove
(Dove may be the name given to a white kit, for example, because Dove’s are white. At the same time it could be given to a peaceful kit; because Dove’s are often associated with peace.)
When they are kits (1-6 moons), there names begin with the same first name and end in ‘kit’. The cat is born with this name.
Example: Dovekit
An apprentice’s (6-12 moons) name ends in paw, and yet again they keep the first part of there name.
Example: Dovepaw
When they get to warrior status (12+ moons) the naming pattern changes; and the leader chooses their second names. Most cats have the following second names: claw, foot, belly, cloud, storm, fur, pelt, whisker, heart, pool, stripe, tail, flower, leaf.
Completed name: Dovepelt
However sometimes warriors get irregular second names which can be almost anything, and follow the same rules as the first part of the name.
Example: Dovefeather
This name will usually last the rest of the cats life, unless...
A) They become leader of a Clan, and StarClan accepts them. There name is given by StarClan and now ends in star.
Example: Dovestar
B) Due to a grave injury there entire name may be changed. Although this does not have to happen, many times the cat will keep there name regardless. This is seen most commonly in the elders of a Clan.
Example: Noear
(Poor Dovefeather/pelt lost an ear lost an ear)
