Rowanstar padded out of his den, jaws gaping in an enormous yawn. His mind was whirring busily. Last night's Gathering had been quit interesting; the leaders of all four Clans had agreed to make a trip to Mother Mouth and speak with their warrior ancestors about strange intruders on their lands. The large creatures had ventured too far into Clan territory and roused suspicion. Not only that, but Rowanstar had felt something odd. Everytime he looked at Lightstar, he felt shivers run down his spine. It bothered him, yet oddly enough, he enjoyed hearing her voice. The ShadowClan leader shook his head, yawning again. He padded up to the TallPine, stretched and shrapened his claws on its old, gnarled bark. Satisfied, he lept onto one of its lower branches and yowled the familiar call: "Let all cats old enough to catch their own prey gather here beneath the TallPine for a Clab meeting!" Rowanstar watched as his Clan groggily tumbled out of their dens, stumbling toward the TallPine, all yawning and shaking their pelts. ~ Dawncloud padded slowly from the warrior's den, flicking her ears and blinking sleep from her eyes. She walked over to the gathering place, ees searching for Silverpaw, her apprentice. She made a plan to take her out for battle training at Sunhigh, and needed to make sure that the young she-cat had had a good sleep. Her eyes also flitted around, searching for a single tabby form. Bloodclaw. For some odd reason, she had been more and more eager to talk to the ambitious tom, and was now looking for him in the crowd of cats. She settled her self near the edge of the crowd, and waited for Rowanstar to begin the meeting. ~ Tigersoul trudged out of the den, bits of mosse clinging to his fur. He yawned, showing rows of large, sharp, glistening fangs. Despite his exhaustion, Tigersoul was in a moderatly good mood. His sleep had been filled with dreams of his future. TigerClan. He dreamed that he was standing on the Great Rock at Fourtrees, gazing down at all the cats from every Clan, their sleek bodies glistening in the red sun. At his feet lay the bloodied body of Rowanstar, and the spirit of his father, Shardclaw, stood beside him, proud as ever. An what suprised him most was that Lightstar was crying and laying beside Rowanstar's body, obviously crushed. Why had he dreamed this? It had nothing to do with him. A moment later, Bloodclaw shoved Lightstar away and pushed Rowanstar's body off the Great Rock, and into a waterfall that appeared out of no where. After that, Tigersoul woke up. He didn't remember much of the dream, but he knew it was a sign. And he would follow it to his destiny.

Silverpaw stretched, yawned, then trotted out of her den at Rowanstar's call. Her yellow eyes now wide open, she spotted Dawncloud and trotted up next to her. "Is Rowanstar going to name a deputy?" She mewed in intrest. The young she-cat was still thinking about the trip to mothermouth...and the way Rowanstar had been looking t Lightstar...
Solofire trotted out of the warriors den, his light blue eyes scanning the clearing, then he saw Rowanstar, he obviously must have called a meeting. Solofire yawned and growled as the kittypet apprentice passed. He decided to sit at th foot of tallpine. He walked past Dawncloud, bumping her shoulder as he did so.

Bloodclaw shouldered his way through the camp entrance, a thrush clamped in his mouth. He shook his thick pelt roughly, sending feathers from the bird flying, then trotted quickly over to the fresh kill pile where he dropped his catch. Licking his lips and spitting out feathers, the massive warrior noticed Rowanstar seated in the Tallpine and made his way to the back of the croud, where he found a spot next to Dawncloud and her apprentice, Silverpaw. Bloodclaw gave the kittypet a look of utter distaste, wrinkling his nose and pulling back his top lip in disgust, then turned and mewed a greeting to Dawncloud. "Good morning. I wonder what Rowanstar's got on his mind this time." He said as cheerfuly as possible. Something deep inside him knew what was going to happen, but he wasn't sure of the outcome. Out of the corner of his eyes, Bloodclaw caught a glimps of his friend Tigersoul. The warrior had a thirsty expression on his face and distant look in his eyes, as though he were seeing someplace that was far out of his reach. Bloodlcaw, after mewing a quick farewell to Dawncloud, shoved his way through the growing throng of cats and seated himself next to Tigersoul. "Something on your mind Tigersoul?" He asked, frowning. "You havn't exactly been yourself since the gathering." ~~ Patchpelt yawned and stretched his bony back as he meandered slowly from his den. His dull grey eyes were tired and his pelt was even more dishevelled than usual, but the old warrior looked excited about this meeting. He wasn't sure why, but he could tell that something good was going to happen. After a quick, yet useless, grooming he padded up to the front of the croud. He sat by himself and off to one side, still too tired to speak to any cat.

Dawncloud hissed as Solofire bumped her shoulder. She snarled at the warrior, not caring to hide her hatred for him. She sighed and turned back to Silverpaw. "I sure hope he does choose a new deputy," she meowed "ShadowClan needs it. Especially if Rowanstar is going on the trip to Mothermouth." Dawncloud looked around as she heard a warrior appraoching. She smiled when she saw Bloodclaw seating himself beside her. She flicked her tail and mewed in response to Bloodclaw's question, "We'll just have to see what he says." His voice was oddly cheerful. She watched as he padded off to sit beside a very hungry looking Tigersoul. Dawncloud knew that Tigersoul was not a cat to trifle with. He wanted so badly to be deputy, and she worried about what lengths Tigersoul might go to to get it. She continued to think of Bloodclaw, and found herself wondering what it would be like if he were deputy. His ambition was fierce, and his friendship with the decietful Tigersoul could lead him to commit something he would regret. Eyes troubled, Dawncloud waited for her brother to begin the meeting. ~ Tigersoul shook his head as Bloodclaw joined him. He snarled just to get it out of his system, then sighed. "I'm fine. Just have a lot to think about." He then smiled maliciously, a new idea taking seed within his mind. "Rowanstar should be choosing a new deptuy today," he meowed slowly, eyes mischevious, "who do you think he'll pick? Can't be me. . . I havn't got an apprentice. But. . .you have an apprentice. Young Jaypaw, am I right?" He looked at Bloodclaw, grinning. "Well . . . what if you were chosen for deputy?" ~ Rowanstar watched as his Clan come to sit before him, and he gathered his thoughts. Taking a deep breath, he began. "Cats of ShadowClan. As you know, our Clan is currently without a deputy. I believe, considering the circumstances of late, that the time has com for me to choose a new deputy." He paused to let the anxious and excited mews die down, then continued. "Bloodclaw, would you please step forward" Rowanstar waited for the dark tabby to join him, feeling proud of his choice.

Bloodclaw was about to reply to Tigersoul's rather malicious question when he heard his name called by Rowanstar. Looking around in surprise, he saw that his leader was looking at him expectantly. Bloodclaw drew up his muscular body to its fullest height and shouldered his way through the croud to the TallPine. Seating himself below his leader, he looked out at the cats of ShadowClan. They all seemed satisfied, with proud expressions on their faces, and he couldn't help but wonder what sort of a Clan he could help them become when he was made leader in his turn. Ambitious thoughts errupted into Bloodclaw's mind. Thoughts of a strong, courageous Clan that could, perhaps, dominate the forest. Such visions made Bloodclaw's mind spin in anticipation. He was soon so wrapped up in his reverie that he forgot what was supposed to be happening, and became lost in the moment.

Jaypaw, Icepaw, and Lionpaw raced out of the apprentice's den. Their coats flugged up against the cold moring air. "I think Rowanstar is gonna name a deputy!" Said Lionpaw exitedly. "Me!' said Icepaw, puffing up his chest. "HA! You wouldn't be made deputy in a million moons!" Scorned Jaypaw, licking her chest fur. "I can wait." he said clamly, glaring at his sister. ______________________________________________________________________________ Flosspelt walked out of her den, shaking her mottled brown fur. The medicine cat yawned and trotted over to Dawncloud. She sat down near the she-cat and her apprentice. She looked around a didn't see Evanpaw. 'Lazy apprentice...' she thought.

Rowanstar lept down from his perch on TallPine to stand regally beside Bloodclaw. He noticed briefly as his apprentice and his siblings seated themselves in the crowd. He was proud of Icepaw, expected many things from him. Rowanstar made a mental note to take him out training later on. Nodding curtly to Boodclaw, he adressed his Clan once more. "I have chosen Bloodclaw as my new deputy, and future succesor. May StarClan look down upon this warrior and approve my choice. I have seen him grow into the warrior he is now, and he has fought in many battles by my side. I have no doubts about choosing Bloodclaw as ShadowClan's deputy." He paused as yowls of approvement rose up from the crowd. Rowanstar noticed that Tigersoul, one of his prised warriors, wasn't cheering Bloodclaw's name. Instead, he was glaring with hatred at the ShadowClan leader, his eyes cold and malicious. Rowanstar felt a shiver run down his spine. Was there something about Tigersoul that made him apprehensive? Shaking his head, he bowed to Bloodclaw for him to take a seat. Raising his head, Rowanstar began on the second order of business. Batpaw. "As well as a new deputy," he yowled over the cheers, "I believe it is time one of our apprentices recieved a new mentor. Batpaw . . ." He looked around for the dark apprentice, awaiting his arrival. ~ Dawncloud looked over to see Flosspelt, the ShadowClan medicine cat, seating herself. She looked around, searching for Flosspelt's apprentice Evanpaw. She was no where to be seen. Surely she would make a point of being present for the naming of the new deputy? Dawncloud shook her head, then brought up a simple question, hoping Flosspelt could explain her apprentice's absence. "Where is Evanpaw? I havn't seen her at all today. As a matter of fact, I havn't seen much of her at all." She tilted her head, trying not look as if she were prying into the medicine cat's business. She looked up as Rowanstar finished his speech, and called Batpaw's name. It's about time that poor scrap got a new mentor, she thought sympathetically about Batpaw, He's been so bored lately. Dawncloud had noticed how he had been acting recently, and hoped that a new mentor might change that.

Bloodclaw was jerked out of his trance-like state when he heard Rowanstar's voice in his ear. Looking sharply around, he remembered where he was and collected himself before any other cats could notice how strange he was acting. He held his head up high and accepted the position and honour with dignity, nodding ever so subtly to his leader. Bloodclaw felt a sence of satisfaction bubble in his stomach and when he looked around at all the pleased and enthusiastic faces of his clanmates, he couldn't help but feel all the more anxious to begin his role as Deputy. But as he glanced around from cat to cat, Bloodclaw's gaze fell upon his fellow warrior, Tigersoul. The big tom was not cheering along with the rest of ShadowClan, and was instead looking very malicious. For a moment, Bloodclaw was apprehensive of his friend, then he nodded his head in a way that stated very clearly that Bloodclaw would not disappoint. After being dismissed by his leader, the big golden tabby-tom padded slowly over to Tigersoul, his face an expression that was unreadable, and seated himself beside his friend, staring directly at Rowanstar. "Oh don't look so mutinous, Tigersoul," He hissed through his teeth, twitching his whiskers thoughtfuly. "You wouldn't want anyone getting the idea that you actually wanted to be deputy, now would you? And besides... I've got a plan in mind that I'm sure you couldn't refuse even if you tried." Bloodclaw's eyes flashed with a fire that burned with ambition and his top lip twitched in the beginnings of a snarl. He continued to stare at his leader, cold blood pumping through his veins and thoughts of a strong clan once again swimming through his mind.

Flosspelt shook her head, "I have no clue, that apprentice is always wondering of." "Who's Evanpaw?" Mewed Silverpaw. Solofire herd yowlesa from the clearing, and ran of.

Batpaw appeared, lurking in the shadows of the Tallpine. He, at the time, was not aware of the second order of business, so...he kept to the shadows.
His fur was sleek and well groomed, his belly full of fresh-kill. The skinny apprentice sat down and licked his chest, keeping one eye on the meeting taking place. Until a random ShadowClanner hissed at him of the topic, and Batpaw growling lowly, stalking toward Rowanstar.
"Well...I'm here..." he said grudgingly, keeping his eyes on the ground.

"Congratulations Bloodclaw!" Mewed Jaypaw, walking up to her mentor. She smiled. Her mentor was the deputy! One of the strongest, and smartest cats in the clans!!!!

Tigersoul's hunched shoulders shook as he chuckled evilly. "What excatly do you have in mind, my friend?" He was about to ask what sort of devious, bloodthristy plot Bloodclaw had brewing in his mind when Jaypaw spoke to her mentor. Tigersoul snarled at her, but his growl was cut off as Rowanstar began to speak once more. Batpaw stood beside the ShadowClan leader, looking as unenthusiastic as ever. So that stubbourn little kit is finally getting a mentor. he thought in disdain. However, his head jerked up at the sound of his name being called. ~ Rowanstar looked at Batpaw with momentary irritation, then began. "This apprentice has been training for about one moon now. Unfortunatly, his previous mentor died in a tragic accident (made that up, sorreh. . .). I believe Batpaw needs a new mentor. Tigersoul," he paused and waited for the dark tabby warrior to lift his head. Rowanstar was startled by the fierce glare he recieved by one of his most prised warriors. He shook his head and continued. "Tigersoul. You have been a warrior for many moons and have proved your worth time and time again. The time has come for you to recieve your first apprentice." Tigersoul got slowly to his feet, a snarl forming on his lips. He padded up to stand in front of Batpaw. "I hope that you will pass on all your knowledge to this young cat, and teach him everything you know." Tigersoul bent his head and touched noses with Batpaw, snarling the entire time. While he was mere inches from Batpaw's face, he hissed, "You'd better do as I say, young apprentice. I won't take any arrogance from you." Before anyone could notice his muttered threat, Tigersoul raised his head and meowed to his leader, "I will, Rowanstar."

Tsk...too late to trade in for another one? Batpaw thought, narrowing his dark eyes at Tigersoul in defiance. He would surely not be ordered unjusticely around by the warrior. If he wanted respect, he d**n well earn it. Threats were not the way to go.
"Just try it..." he hissed back, regretfully touching noses with Tigersoul before drawing sharply back, taking his place among the shadows once more.

"Poor Batpaw..." Muttered Silverpaw to herself. She may not have been in the clan that long, but she did know, just from looking at him that Tigersoul was not a cat you wanted to hang around with.
